On January 15, Apple announced that it would expand cross-border payment support for Apple Pay in mainland China. From now on, users in mainland China can transfer their banknotes issued by local banks toVisa credit and debit cardsAdd to Apple Wallet to pay with Apple Pay when traveling internationally.


According to the announcement, the first banks to support the feature includeIndustrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of Communications, China Merchants Bank, China CITIC Bank, Ping An Bank and Industrial Bankissued Visa credit card, andChina CITIC BankVisa debit card issued. Visa credit cards of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, China Construction Bank, China Minsheng Bank, and China Everbright Bank will be gradually supported in the next few months. In addition, Mastercard has also stated that it plans to provide this feature to cardholders of some card issuers in the coming months.

Users can add cards through the latest version of the bank app or the wallet app on iPhone. When paying, you need to authenticate through face ID, touch ID or device password, together with a one-time dynamic security code. Apple said that security and privacy are core designs, and real card numbers will not be stored on the device or Apple servers.

Apple Pay was officially launched in mainland China in February 2016. Previously, it mainly supported binding UnionPay cards.
