With 6.354 million people-years, China’s R&D personnel rank first in the world

According to the "China Science and Technology Talent Development Report (2022)" officially released by the Ministry of Science and Technology,my country's full-time equivalent of R&D personnel will reach 6.354 million person-years in 2022, almost double the number of 3.247 million person-years in 2012, ranking first in the world. The so-called "full-time equivalent of R&D personnel" is an internationally used indicator for comparing scientific and technological manpower input.It refers to the workload calculated by R&D personnel based on the actual time they engage in R&D activities, and the unit is "person-year".

Compared with the simple number of R&D personnel, it can better reflect a country's actual investment in scientific and technological R&D.

The "Report" pointed out that in recent years, while the scale of scientific and technological talents has continued to expand, our country has focused on optimizing the structure of the scientific and technological talent team, creating a diversified and multi-level talent team, and accelerating the construction of a strategic talent force with clear positioning, enhanced efficiency, and reasonable levels of strategic scientists, leading scientific and technological talents, innovation teams, young scientific and technological talents, and outstanding engineers.

at present,There are more than 2.5 million graduates in science, engineering, agriculture and medicine in my country, and there is a rich reserve of scientific and technological talent resources.

At the same time, the international academic influence of my country’s top scientific and technological talents continues to increase.The number of highly cited scientists selected in the world was only 111 in 2014, and has reached 1,169 in 2022, ranking second in the world, second only to the United States.

In addition, outstanding young scientific and technological talents have become the absolute protagonists.Among the research participants in national key R&D programs, more than 80% are under the age of 45.
