Adobe recently introduced a series of new generative AI features for Acrobat, designed to help users quickly edit PDF documents and convert their content into audio and visual summaries. These updates are currently integrated into the standalone application Acrobat Studio, rather than the traditional basic PDF reader. With this new platform, users can not only edit documents using chat-style conversations, but also generate personalized podcasts and presentations.

The newly added Generate Podcast function can generate audio summaries in the form of podcasts for various types of documents imported by users. It is suitable for meeting minutes, long reports, learning materials, etc., making it convenient for users to quickly obtain key points by "listening" when they do not have time to read the full text. Although Adobe has its own audio AI model, the feature currently uses Microsoft's GPT model and Google's speech model for the transcription and speech parts respectively. Adobe said that as testing progresses, the underlying technology stack may be adjusted in the future. Google has previously launched a similar Audio Overviews feature in the NotebookLM research tool, but Acrobat is obviously more familiar to users who have been dealing with PDFs for a long time.

In terms of visual summaries, Acrobat Studio's built-in AI assistant can automatically generate presentations for roadshows or reports based on specific insights in the source documents. The Generate Presentation function calls Adobe Express tools to provide users with a variety of presentation design templates. Users can complete the entire production process with one click, or make detailed modifications and fine-tuning based on the generated presentation.

Meanwhile, Acrobat’s AI Assistant now supports direct editing of PDFs via chat commands, an update in line with a similar feature Adobe launched in Express last year. Acrobat Studio users only need to describe the desired changes in natural language, and the system can automatically complete operations such as adding signatures, deleting pages, adding and deleting text, annotations and pictures, and replacing words and phrases, thus significantly lowering the threshold for traditional PDF editing.

By integrating podcast generation, presentation automation, and chat-based editing into the same workspace, Acrobat Studio is seeking to upgrade traditional PDF processing workflows into a "document workstation" built around generative AI. For users who need to frequently read long documents, produce reporting materials, or collaborate in teams, these new features are expected to significantly improve the efficiency of information digestion and content production.
