Google is helping AI models deliver more personalized search responses, allowing chatbots to analyze users' Gmail and Google Photos accounts. Following last week's launch for Gemini AI, "Personal Intelligence" is now live, automatically adapting AI-mode search results to match the user's interests and daily life by gathering information from a user's emails and photos, without requiring the user to manually create and adjust preferences.

For example, Google said Personal Intelligence allows AI models to suggest travel itineraries by referencing hotel bookings in Gmail and vacation photos in Photos. It can recommend ice cream shops to users if they often take selfies with ice cream. When using AI mode for online shopping, it can give priority to recommending products from brands that users have worn or purchased before.

Eligible Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers can choose to connect their Gmail and Google Photos accounts to use AI mode starting today. The update is rolling out in the US as a feature in Google Labs and is only available for personal Google accounts. The update follows the introduction of personal intelligence in Gemini AI, which can also access search and YouTube history, as well as Gmail and Photos.

"With privacy in mind, AI mode uses our smartest model, Gemini 3, and is not trained directly on your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library," Google VP of Search Robby Stein said in the announcement. "Training is limited to responses to specific cues and AI patterns to improve functionality over time."

Stein said that while personal intelligence could be helpful, internal testing shows "bugs can happen."
