In the context of tight supply of memory chips and generally rising industry costs, Sony has responded to the PS5’s price strategy. In a recent earnings conference call,Sony stated that it does not plan to increase the price of the PS5 console, and hinted that it will pass on the cost to subscription services such as PS Plus, so that all PS5 users will bear it.

Sony CFO Tao Lin said at the meeting that as "GTA6" will be launched in the fall of 2026, it is expected to be the last chance to drive significant growth in PS5 sales.

Sony does not want to suppress demand by raising the price of PS5, and plans to supplement its revenue through software and services instead of raising the price of PS5 console.

In fact, the price of the PS5 console has gradually increased since August 2025. The price in Europe and the United States has been about 15% higher than the recommended retail price. However, the price increase has not yet occurred in the Japanese market, and Sony is still selling it in Japan at the recommended retail price.

Sony also revealed that it has signed a supply contract to ensure the minimum memory supply required for the PS5 console in 2026. In order to cope with the shortage of memory supply, Sony also expressed its intention to launch a more affordable entry-level PS5 model.
