Finnish manufacturer HMD announced on February 10 that its rugged mobile phone HMD Terra M for business and professional users is officially available in some European markets. The machine was previously previewed in November last year, and now the manufacturer has announced more complete product and service details, emphasizing that this is not just a device, but a "fully managed communications ecosystem built for operational efficiency from day one."

According to the official introduction, HMD Terra M is specially designed for professional workers who need to maintain stable and secure connections in harsh environments. Its application scenarios include hospitals, construction sites, airports, security teams, and various emergency rescue personnel. The machine has passed multiple protection certifications such as IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H. It is equipped with a 2.8-inch touch screen that can be operated with gloves, large-size physical buttons and high-volume speakers. It supports 4G networks and dual SIM/eSIM, and can turn on the hotspot sharing function, taking into account traditional keyboard operation and basic intelligent connection experience.
HMD says Terra M will be delivered as a "complete managed communications solution" rather than just a single hardware product. The design idea is to build on a relatively low-cost, durable body and overlay enterprise-grade services to enable organizations to build communications-centric business processes around this platform. The official commitment is to provide quarterly security updates for Terra M for up to five years, bringing longer-term maintainability and security to enterprise deployments.
In terms of communication capabilities, Terra M combines low-cost IoT SIM and eSIM access, supports professional-grade cellular network Push-to-Talk (PTT, push-to-talk) function, and provides secure communication and device management capabilities. Its connection solution is provided by Lyfo, relying on intelligent network switching across operators to achieve higher network coverage reliability across borders and in remote or high-risk areas, meeting the needs of emergency and industry users for "constant offline" communications.

HMD provides integration solutions with multiple mobile device management (MDM) platforms for enterprise customers. Terra M can be deployed with MDM solutions from Springdel and SOTI, and more partners will be announced in the future. PTT services are provided by Zello and Mobile Tornado. With the help of programmable buttons and dedicated emergency buttons on the body, it provides safe and interoperable group intercom capabilities for team communication, meeting the needs of quick calls and emergency dispatch in front-line operation scenarios.
In addition to basic communication and management capabilities, Terra M also pre-installs or supports a variety of security and privacy-oriented application tools, including Threema for end-to-end encrypted message communication, Joplin for secure notes and knowledge management, and OsmAnd, which emphasizes privacy priority and supports online and offline navigation, to facilitate positioning and route planning for users performing tasks in disconnected or restricted environments. HMD has also launched a subscription discount with partner applications: new Joplin Cloud users can use the discount code HMDTERRAM within three months to enjoy a 15% discount for the first year; enterprise customers who purchase Threema Work or Threema OnPrem before the end of April this year can get a 30% price discount.

With Terra M, HMD further improves its product line for enterprise and industry customers, providing a hybrid solution that combines ruggedness, professional communication and security services between traditional feature phones and smart terminals. With the help of cooperation with multi-party communication, device management and privacy application service providers, the machine is expected to become part of the organizational-level communication system in various high-risk and high-intensity work scenarios in Europe, rather than just a single terminal device.
