YouTube is launching a new AI-driven playlist generation function. Premium members on iOS and Android can create exclusive playlists through text commands. Users only need to enter the "Library" tab of the application, click the "New" button and select the "AI Playlist" option to start using it. You can then enter any command through text or voice to generate a playlist, such as "burning death metal", "sad post-rock", "avant-garde house mix suitable for relaxed parties", "indie pop" or "90s classic hits", etc.

YouTube has been testing AI playlist generation technology for some time. In July 2024, the company had already tested a new feature in the United States, allowing users to create personalized radio stations through commands.

Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer and other competing streaming media products have also launched AI-driven playlist or radio creation functions.

YouTube is continuing to ramp up efforts to make its premium membership packages more attractive to users. Earlier this week, the platform began restricting free users from viewing lyrics in the YouTube Music app. The company said the restriction was only a test for a "small number of ad-supported free users" and that the vast majority of free users could still view lyrics normally.

Google's subscription business revenue has been growing recently, and YouTube is a core component of this business segment. Google announced earlier this month that the total number of paid users of its Google One cloud service and YouTube premium membership has now reached 325 million.
