Microsoft will release a rather unusual 26H1 update for Windows 11 in the first half of this year. Microsoft recently published a dedicated blog post to introduce this special version.Unlike previous annual feature updates (H2) released in the second half of the year, Microsoft has made it clear that 26H1 will only be available for PCs equipped with specific new chips, currently devices equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 series processors.
At the same time, because Windows 11 26H1 is an underlying architecture change, existing Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 devices cannot be migrated to 26H1 through in-place upgrade, and devices running 26H1 will not be directly updated to 26H2.

However, Microsoft promises that future versions will provide a unified upgrade path. Specifically, 27H1 or other versions have yet to be confirmed. In addition, Windows 11 26H1 can receive monthly security and quality updates, but does not support hot patch technology.
For enterprise users, Microsoft particularly emphasizes that 26H1 is not a universal mainstream version. Currently, 24H2 and 25H2 are still recommended versions for large-scale enterprise deployment and standardized environments.
The 26H1 is more suitable for early adopters who want to test the latest chip technology and software advancements without disrupting existing infrastructure.
