On February 11, OpenAI announced the launch of a new full-screen document reader for ChatGPT’s Deep Research function, allowing users to read and browse long research reports generated by AI in a separate window. This update also introduces features such as directory navigation and source lists, aiming to improve the readability and controllability of long-form reports.
According to reports, when users use the in-depth research feature to generate a report in ChatGPT, the report can now be opened in full screen outside the chat window. In the new reading interface, the table of contents of the report will be displayed on the left side of the screen to facilitate users to quickly jump to specific chapters; the reference source links used to generate the report will be displayed on the right side to facilitate further verification and extended reading.
The in-depth research function was first launched last year. It mainly uses ChatGPT to automatically collect data from the Internet, organize and output an in-depth report on a specified topic. In this update, users can not only continue to let the system "search the entire network", but also ask ChatGPT to focus the research scope on specific websites or connected applications, thereby completing information integration within a more controllable source range.
The updated in-depth research also allows users to track the report generation process in real time. While ChatGPT is writing a report, users can dynamically view the progress and adjust the research scope or add new information sources midway, enhancing interactivity and a sense of control over the research process. After the report is generated, users can directly export the document to multiple formats in the new reader, including Markdown, Word and PDF, to meet the editing and sharing needs of different scenarios.
OpenAI said this series of new features will be gradually available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers starting today. In addition, users of the new subscription tier ChatGPT Go, which has just been launched globally, as well as users of the free version, will also receive this in-depth research feature update "in the coming days."
