TSMC, currently the world's largest wafer foundry, will usher in important management changes next year. They have announced that chairman Liu Deyin will retire next year. They announced on their official website that Liu Deyin has decided not to seek nomination for the next director and will retire after the 2024 shareholder meeting.
TSMC also announced on its official website that the Nomination, Corporate Governance and Sustainability Committee has nominated Vice Chairman Dr. Wei Zhejia to succeed Liu Deyin as the next chairman, which will depend on the board election in June next year.
Judging from the news announced on TSMC's official website, Liu Deyin has a PhD in electrical machinery and computer information from the University of California, Berkeley. He joined TSMC in 1993 as deputy director of engineering and established the company's first eight-inch wafer fab. He later held leadership positions in many important positions. He was responsible for leading cutting-edge technology research and development, and became the company's chairman in June 2018.
Liu Deyin, who has been with TSMC for 30 years, said that his experience at TSMC over the past 30 years has been an extraordinary journey for him and he is honored to serve as chairman. Now he wants to use his decades of experience in the semiconductor field elsewhere to spend more time with his family and start a new chapter in his life.
Wei Zhejia, who was nominated by TSMC to succeed Liu Deyin as chairman, has a PhD in electrical engineering from Yale University. After working in several semiconductor companies, he joined TSMC in 1998 and subsequently held many important leadership positions. He entered the board of directors with Liu Deyin in 2017 and served as the company's CEO when Liu Deyin became chairman.
