In an interview with Famitsu, the development team stated that this work is not a remake or simply updated classic work, but a reinterpretation of the original work. Crystal Dynamics general manager Scott Amos pointed out that "Tomb Raider: Ruins of Atlantis" retains the core elements of the original game and modernizes key content to meet the needs of modern players. For example, the classic scene between Lara Croft and Tyrannosaurus Rex will be presented in a new way in the new work.

The team stated that the game will retain the core features of the original work, including Laura's confident image and strategic puzzle design, but the combat system, movement mechanism, and environment and level layout have been reconstructed, using Unreal 5 technology to achieve a modern presentation. In addition, the developers hinted that the game will contain new elements and surprises, which may include the debut of the "Tomb Hunter Guild" organization.

In the new work, Lara Croft will be voiced by Alix Wilton Regan, who stated that she will pay tribute to the image of the classic period rather than the early version of the 2013 reboot.
