After two years, Sony finally launched a new generation of flagship wireless headphones WF-1000XM6. As the successor of WF-1000XM5, Sony confidently stated that this is the best headphone product to date. In terms of audio processing, Sony has equipped the WF-1000XM6 with an upgraded version of the integrated processor V2, which now supports 32-bit audio processing, which is a significant improvement compared to the 24-bit audio depth of the previous generation.

Thanks to this improvement, Sony claims that the XM6 has significantly improved clarity, dynamic range and detail performance. The headphones are equipped with 8.4mm dynamic driver units and are custom-tuned by Sony acoustic engineers in cooperation with a number of Sony Music-owned recording studios. In terms of codec support, the headset is compatible with AAC, SBC, LC3 and LDAC audio formats, and is also equipped with Sony's DSEE Extreme technology, which uses AI algorithms to improve the sound quality of compressed audio files. For users who like to customize sound effects, Sony provides an upgraded 10-band equalizer in the Sound Connect app. In addition, the headset also supports Bluetooth 5.3 (LE) multi-point pairing, Auracast, fast pairing and 360 Reality Audio head tracking.

Noise reduction performance is another highlight of WF-1000XM6. The new headphones use the QN3e noise reduction chip inherited from the head-mounted WH-1000XM6. Sony claims that its noise reduction effect is 25% higher than that of the previous generation, especially in the mid- and high-frequency bands. The noise reduction system is equipped with an adaptive noise reduction optimizer, which can analyze external noise in real time and dynamically adjust the sound and noise reduction effect according to the user's wearing style. To enhance noise-canceling capabilities, the upgraded system adds two new outward-facing microphones, bringing the total number of microphones per earphone to four. Sony also said that the XM6’s ambient sound mode sounds more natural and realistic. In terms of connection stability, the size of the internal antenna of the headset is 1.5 times that of the XM5, which can provide a more reliable connection experience.
In terms of battery life, WF-1000XM6 can provide 8 hours of use on a single charge, which is consistent with the previous generation product. The charging box can provide two full charges, with a total battery life of up to 24 hours. The headphones retain the wireless charging function and have IPX4 waterproof performance. The WF-1000XM6 will be available in silver and black, priced at 300 euros (approximately $330).
