On February 11, an Arik Air Boeing 737-700 passenger plane was performing flight W3-740 from Lagos to Port Harcourt, Nigeria, when it diverted to Benin Airport on its way from Lagos to Port Harcourt. According to reports, the registration number of the passenger plane involved was 5N-MJF, with 80 people on board. After taking off from Lagos, the plane climbed to flight level 270,The left engine suddenly made a loud noise, and the engine parameters were synchronized abnormally.

The crew immediately shut down the left engine. For safety reasons, the pilot immediately diverted the plane to Benin. The plane landed safely at Benin Airport. All passengers and crew were not injured and all 80 people on board got off the plane safely.

Live footage showed that the left engine (CFM56-7B20) of the aircraft failed and the air intake cover partially fell off.

During the alternate landing process, passengers screamed in the cabin, but fortunately, there was no danger and the passenger plane landed safely at the alternate airport.

The Nigeria National Air Accident Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation. The Bureau said:"Based on preliminary visual assessment, the affected left engine failed uncontained and has been severely damaged."
