The 20th Asian Games will be held in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, in September this year. According to Game*Spark,The Japan E-Sports Federation (JESU) has now officially clarified the events that Japan will participate in and explained this.It is understood that the nine game events that Japanese players will participate in are: fighting team competition ("Street Fighter 6", "Tekken 8", "King of Fighters XV"), "Pokémon Rally", "PUBG Mobile", "Identity V", "GT7", "eFootball" and "Magic Bubble eSports".

"Glory of Kings", "League of Legends", "League of Legends Mobile" and "Eternal Tribulation" are listed as not participating.

It is worth noting that at the last 19th Asian Games (Hangzhou), Japan sent players to participate in the "League of Legends" project, and in the LCP Asia-Pacific Division officially organized by "League of Legends", Japan also has two teams that continue to participate.

In this regard, JESU explained that the selection of Japanese representative candidates is based on the "TEAM JAPAN player team formation policy" proposed by the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and the number of internally issued quotas. Although the e-sports project received a total of 25 dispatch places, it still "had to give up sending players to all 11 events and 13 game projects."

Regarding the 7 events and 9 games that were finally decided to be dispatched, JESU said,This judgment was made based on the selection policy of "selecting athletes who have the competitive ability to meet the expectations of the people and are expected to win medals or rankings" and comprehensively consider "the results of past international competitions."

Popular projects such as "League of Legends" have been excluded because of "limited quotas and priority for medals." Do you think this choice is reasonable? Between "maximizing competitive performance" and "project representativeness and fairness", is Japan's choice this time rational and pragmatic, or is it too utilitarian?
