California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in an interview on Tuesday that his office is establishing an artificial intelligence accountability program and is also investigating Elon Musk's xAI for generating sexually explicit images without consent.

Bonta said the California Attorney General's office moved quickly last month to issue a cease-and-desist letter to xAI as global regulators investigate the company's artificial intelligence chatbot Grok for sexualizing content of adults and possible minors.

Bonta said his office was seeking confirmation that the conduct had ceased and was still in discussions with the company. He said xAI shirked its responsibility and still allowed some sexualized content to be generated for paying users.

Bonta added: "Just because you stop moving forward does not absolve you of what you did."

xAI, which was recently acquired by Musk’s SpaceX, did not respond to a request for comment.
