There is no doubt that Daniel Radcliffe is a movie star, and the role of Harry Potter that made him famous is equally popular. But believe it or not, Radcliffe is trying to distance himself from the character in front of one person - his two-year-old son. Nowadays, images of him playing this classic protagonist can be seen everywhere in the outside world, but children have not yet connected him with the original movie.

Daniel Radcliffe doesn't want his son to know he played Harry Potter

"Does my son know who Harry Potter is? No, not yet," Radcliffe said in a recent interview with the New York Times. "Someone recently asked me to autograph a DVD that had been sitting on our dining room table for several days. One time he came over and I asked him, 'Who is this?' to see if he could recognize me on the cover."

But the actor's young son didn't make the connection, giving Radcliffe more time to guard who he was in his children's eyes. "It's great that he didn't recognize it," he told the media. "As long as I can just be his dad and not let him know my other identities, I will maintain this purity as long as possible."

Interestingly, even if his son became interested in the "Harry Potter" series in the future, Radcliffe did not want him to watch the movies in the series in which he starred. Radcliffe and his girlfriend Erin Darke welcomed their son in April 2023. In fact, he wanted to show his children the upcoming HBO series and not let them know his connection to this story. "Hopefully, I'll show him the show so he doesn't have to watch my version," Radcliffe explained. "To be honest, that's the ideal situation."

Even so, the actor is still willing to read J.K. Rowling's original series to his son, perhaps because unlike the movies, he is not directly tied to the novels. "If he is interested in these books, I will definitely read them to him," Radcliffe said. "But I won't actively push him to read them because I don't think it is necessary - he will be exposed to them sooner or later."

The upcoming HBO version of "Harry Potter" series is scheduled to be launched on the platform in early 2027. Currently, the entire series of original "Harry Potter" movies can be watched on HBO Max and Peacock platforms.
