U.S. President Donald Trump said he would raise the 10% global tariffs he announced a day earlier to 15% in response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that his mechanism for imposing tariffs was illegal.

U.S. President Trump posted on social media "Truth Social" that after conducting a thorough, detailed and comprehensive review of yesterday's ridiculous, poorly worded and extremely anti-American tariff decision made by the U.S. Supreme Court, and after months of careful consideration, I hereby declare that as President of the United States, I will immediately increase the 10% global tariffs on all countries to the fully permissible and legally tested level of 15%. Over the next few months, the Trump Administration will identify and issue new, legally permissible tariffs that will continue our highly successful Make America Great Again process.

The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that Trump's tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act were illegal.

But hours after the ruling, Trump imposed 10% global tariffs on foreign goods in an effort to maintain his trade agenda.
