At a recent event hosted by Variety and CNN, Matthew McConaughey and Tiancha discussed McConaughey's performance in Marty Supreme (for which he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar), among other topics. One of the topics discussed was the use of artificial intelligence in film.

When asked about it, Matthew McConaughey responded: "It's coming. It's already here. Don't deny it. It's not enough to sit back and make a moral appeal of, 'No, this is wrong.' It's not going to last. There's money to be made, and it's huge. So I say: Take control of yourself. Voice, likeness, etc. Trademark. Do it anyway so that when the opportunity comes, no one can steal it from you."
Matthew McConaughey also talked about the idea of artificial intelligence "replacing" actors and how that might impact awards judging.
"Artificial intelligence is definitely going to infiltrate our field. Will it become another category? Five years from now, will we be voting for 'Best AI Movie'? 'Best AI Actor'? I think it's very likely that it will become another category.
It comes to us in ways we can’t even detect. It will get so good that we won't be able to tell the difference between real and fake. This is one of the biggest issues right now: the limits of reality. I think it's more ambiguous than ever, which is both exciting and scary. Be prepared. Stay true to your path so that when it starts to encroach on your territory, you can at least still have something to offer. "
"Why pay me $20 million when AI can generate the exact same face and voice for $20,000? Unlimited shots, no negotiation, no delays."
At the same time, Matthew McConaughey is a partner and investor in ElevenLabs, an artificial intelligence voice technology company. Even before he talked about the potential of AI actors, there was an actor named Tilly Norwood.
On the work front, Matthew McConaughey's next film is "Positano," which will reportedly be released in 2027. He was last seen in a cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine (2024).
