According to the latest revelations from Mark Gurman,Apple is testing a new deep red color for the iPhone 18 Pro series. This is the first time that the red color is expected to be available on iPhone Pro models. It is reported that the iPhone 18 Pro’s attempt to use deep red is mainly due to the aluminum alloy unibody formed by the iPhone 17 Pro. This process allows the Pro series to achieve richer color matching.

Gurman said that dark red is currently the new flagship test color of this model. As for the iPhone 17 Pro’s previously popular Xingyu Orange (particularly popular in the Chinese market), Apple will most likely choose to retain it, and may eventually achieve dual main colors.
It is worth noting that if the dark red color comes to fruition this time, it will be Apple’s first red iPhone in 4 years since the iPhone 14 in 2022, and it will also fill the gap of the Pro series without red.
The purple, brown and other colors previously exposed are actually just different test variants of deep red, not independent color schemes.

Unlike the iPhone 18 Pro, which is trying new colors, Apple has set an extremely conservative color matching strategy for the first folding screen iPhone Fold, clearly staying away from fancy colors and only providing two basic colors of dark gray/black and white/light silver, returning to the classic color matching logic of the first-generation iPhone.
This is also to simplify the mass production process of folding screens. As Apple's first product in the field of folding screens, reducing color matching can reduce production complexity and improve yield rate.
