The price increase of flash memory in the past six months has caused the price of SSD to increase three to four times. However, high-end products will continue to improve. The next target is PCIe 6.0 hard drives. Micron has announced products before, and Samsung will also launch new products in the first half of the year. ZDNET reported that,Samsung plans to launch its first PCIe 6.0 hard drive in the first half of this year.In the initial stage, it is mainly used for technical verification, process optimization and certification in order to prepare for mass production.

In this regard, Samsung has actually lagged behind Micron, which started verifying its products in the second half of last year. It recently announced the mass production of PCIe 6.0 hard drives, mainly for use in data centers.

Samsung's PCIe 6.0 hard drive should be the PM1763 series, with a 16-channel design, a target speed of 30GB/s, and a capacity of up to 256TB.The power consumption is expected to be around 25W. The first batch mainly has specifications such as E1.S/E3.S/EDSFF. The heat dissipation may be air cooling, but if the power consumption cannot be controlled, liquid cooling may be used.

Although the performance of PCIe 6.0 hard drives is very attractive, ordinary people cannot buy them (and of course cannot afford them) because the consumer-level platform does not yet support PCIe 6.0 hard drives. The previous main control chip supplier Huirong expected to support PCIe 6.0 consumer-level hard drives in 2030.
