February 25, 2026 marks the fourth anniversary of the launch of the first batch of Steam Deck products equipped with LCD screens. This handheld console also helped promote SteamOS and Proton to become mainstream solutions for PC games on the Linux platform. The growth in the number of "certified" and "playable" ratings for the Steam Deck, as well as continued updates to the client and Proton, are important parts of its long-term support strategy.

Steam Deck is 4 years old, but there is still no news about the 2nd generation from Valve

Valve recently issued an announcement in the store, reminding consumers that Steam Deck OLED models may be out of stock intermittently in some areas due to memory and storage shortages. Valve has also been gradually discontinuing some older products. The company has confirmed that the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model is no longer in production and once stock is sold out, the product will no longer be available on shelves.

Still no news on Steam Deck 2

Previously, Valve has stated that it will not rush to launch follow-up products, but hopes to achieve a major leap in the platform before launching Steam Deck 2-level products. However, there is currently no news indicating that Valve intends to use AMD RDNA 5 technology to drive the new handheld console. At the same time, RDNA 5 is expected to become AMD's next-generation mainstream desktop GPU. Next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft are also using RDNA 5 technology.
