OpenAI founder Altman posted on social media that tonight, OpenAI reached an agreement with the "Department of War" (U.S. Department of Defense) to deploy OpenAI's model in its confidential network. Artificial intelligence safety and inclusive benefits are the core of OpenAI's mission. OpenAI’s two most important security principles are:Domestic mass surveillance is prohibited and the use of force must be left to human responsibility, including autonomous weapons systems. The "Department of War" recognizes these principles and embodies them in laws and policies, and OpenAI has also written these principles into the agreement.

OpenAI will also build technical safeguards to ensure that the model operates as expected, which is also what the "War Department" expects. OpenAI will deploy functional development engineers to assist in model work and ensure security, and will only deploy it in the cloud network.

OpenAI calls on the “War Department” to offer the same terms to all artificial intelligence companies, which OpenAI believes all companies should be willing to accept.

OpenAI strongly hopes that the situation will cool down and shift from legal and government actions to rational negotiation.
