Previous reports showed that rumors circulated on the Internet that "10 provinces and cities are piloting new energy vehicle mileage tax".

New energy vehicle mileage tax is levied on household pure electric vehicles and compliant extended-range electric vehicles. The basic rate is unified at 0.12 yuan per kilometer, and the rate for over-standard models rises to 0.14-0.15 yuan/kilometer.

The billing method is to connect the Beidou system through the vehicle terminal to automatically record the driving mileage, without the need for car owners to manually declare the payment method. It supports one-time payment during annual inspection, or binding bank cards to withhold on a quarterly basis.

The pilot areas are currently only piloted in 10 provinces and cities: Hainan, Zhejiang, Chongqing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, and Fujian.
