Motorola recently announced at the 2026 World Mobile Communications Conference (MWC 2026) that it has established a long-term partnership with the GrapheneOS Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on mobile security. The collaboration will see a future Motorola smartphone pre-installed with GrapheneOS, a highly privacy-strengthened operating system based on the Android open source project, while also porting some GrapheneOS features to other Motorola devices.

According to Motorola in a media briefing in Barcelona, the move is aimed at ushering in a new era of smartphone security. The two parties will work together to carry out joint research, software optimization and the development of new security features, with more details and solutions gradually being rolled out in the coming months.
It is unclear which GrapheneOS features will be ported, but GrapheneOS developers have previously stated that existing Motorola devices do not yet meet their hardware requirements, including the current flagship Motorola Signature series. Currently, GrapheneOS only officially supports Google Pixel devices, and this cooperative phone will become the first compatible model in the Motorola camp.
