Lin Junyang, the core person in charge of Tongyi Qianwen, posted on X early this morning that he would step down from the Qianwen project. He posted: "me stepping down, bye my beloved qwen". Information shows that Lin Junyang is only 32 years old. He is Alibaba’s youngest P10 technical leader and the core promoter of Tongyi Qianwen. At the beginning of this year, he appeared at the AGI-Next Frontier Summit, with the title of Qwen technical leader.

As for whether Lin Junyang will continue to work at Alibaba after resigning, Alibaba has not responded to media inquiries as of press time. However, according to relevant sources, Lin Junyang submitted his resignation application to Ali on the afternoon of March 3.

According to reports, the Qwen team will change from a "vertical integration" system covering different training processes and modalities to separate horizontal division of labor teams for pre-training, post-training, text, and multi-modality. These teams will still be affiliated with Tongyi Lab. Lin Junyang's management scope has been narrowed.

Along with Lin Junyang’s official announcement of his withdrawal, Qwen’s post-training head Yu Bowen also resigned simultaneously. In addition, Hui Bin, the person in charge of Qwen Code, and Kaixin Li, the core contributor of Qwen3.5 & VL & Coder, also announced that they will leave Qwen.

According to the data, Hui Binyuan’s research direction is autonomous programming models and coding agents. He initiated the OpenDevin project and is a co-author of the Qwen technical report. Li Kaixin is a PhD candidate at the National University of Singapore. In his announcement of his resignation, he once revealed, "Qwen could have had a base in Singapore, but after he left, there was no need to stay."

Recently, Alibaba Group has unified the general name and core brand of AI into Qianwen. The Qianwen large model (Qwen) covers basic large models and professional field models. Qianwen App is Alibaba's flagship AI application on the C side. As organizational changes occur, team member departures also occur quickly. In response, some netizens commented: "It really looks like Ali."

Regarding the adjustment of the Qwen team, a widely circulated theory is that Alibaba Cloud executives made structural adjustments to the Qwen team and parachuted in a new technical leader. Lin Junyang's reporting relationship or right to speak changed. The two parties had differences in direction and eventually left.

It is reported that the new leader who joined Alibaba Qwen is Hao Zhou. His background is Google DeepMind. He has participated in the work of Gemini series models. His research directions are large language models, multi-modality, and long context. However, as of press time, Alibaba has not officially announced the appointment, nor has the person involved publicly confirmed the appointment.
