This week Apple officially released a new notebook MacBook Neo, with a starting price of only 4,599 yuan. This price breaks the previous high threshold for the MacBook series, making it the most difficult-to-get Apple notebook product on the market.

In terms of hardware configuration, this model is equipped with 8GB of memory as standard, and provides two storage specifications of 256GB and 512GB for users to choose from. It is worth noting that this new product does not provide a larger-capacity memory version, which triggered widespread discussion after its release.

According to relevant technical disassembly, the core reason why MacBook Neo is fixed at 8GB of memory is the A18 Pro chip it is equipped with. This chip uses the same TSMC InFO-POP integrated fan-out packaging process as the iPhone 16 Pro.

Under this advanced packaging process, the memory particles and the A18 Pro processor are packaged together as a whole. While this design significantly improves energy efficiency and saves space, it also meansMemory specifications are locked at the factory and cannot be expanded later like traditional computers.

Although the memory is expected to be upgraded to 12GB if equipped with the updated A19 Pro chip, due to the fact that the R&D design and component procurement of electronic products usually need to be planned about a year in advance, coupled with the recent global memory supply shortage and skyrocketing prices, Apple has made a cost trade-off.

If the MacBook Neo is forcibly replaced with a higher-spec A19 Pro chip and large memory, its final price will be difficult to maintain at the 4,000 yuan level. This will obviously deviate from its core positioning as an entry-level popular product and fail to attract a wider user group through its price advantage.

Overall, the launch of MacBook Neo is Apple's search for the best balance between performance and price. Although 8GB of memory seems cramped, with Apple's excellent system scheduling, it can still smoothly handle basic usage scenarios such as daily office work and audio-visual entertainment.
