Apple and OpenAI recently announced that they will deeply integrate the music recognition service Shazam into the ChatGPT application. In the future, users will be able to directly identify songs playing in the background in the chat interface without switching to a separate Shazam application. From now on, this new tool has begun to be rolled out to users around the world, covering ChatGPT on iOS, Android and the web.

In terms of specific usage, users only need to enter "@Shazam" in the conversation, or directly make requests such as "identify the currently playing song" to ChatGPT, and a dedicated microphone button will appear on the interface to start recording. The system calls the standard Shazam recognition technology that has been used on Apple devices for many years, and a preview of the recognition results can be returned in the chat window within a few seconds. Recognized songs will be presented in the form of cards, and the overall visual style is consistent with the design language of Apple Music, making it easier for users to further play or manage.

One of the highlights of this integration is that it runs completely cross-platform, and using this feature is no longer a prerequisite for owning an Apple device. Even when using ChatGPT on non-Apple platforms, users can still identify songs through the Shazam tool. If the user has installed the standalone Shazam app on their phone, they can also save the songs recognized in ChatGPT to Shazam's personal music library to avoid these music discoveries being drowned in a large number of historical chat records.

Leveraging ChatGPT's existing music service expansion capabilities, this integration further opens up content discovery and playback scenarios. Currently, ChatGPT supports linkage with Apple Music, and users can directly generate new playlists in ChatGPT based on the songs they just identified. At the same time, ChatGPT also supports integration with Spotify, which means that the same "find a song and create a playlist" experience can also be extended to the streaming media platforms of Apple's main competitors.

It should be noted that Shazam for ChatGPT is not turned on by default, and users need to manually complete one-time settings. Officially recommended methods include: searching for Shazam in ChatGPT’s in-app tool list and connecting it to ChatGPT, or directly visiting its dedicated tool page to authorize it with one click. After completing the binding, the Shazam music recognition service will automatically take effect on all supported devices of the user. Whether it is a mobile phone, tablet or desktop web page, it can be called directly in the chat.

Currently, the integration of Shazam and ChatGPT has begun to roll out globally, and related functions are available simultaneously on iOS, Android, and ChatGPT on the web. For users who often listen to music while chatting and want to record songs that they "pass by their ears" at any time, the closed-loop experience of identifying songs with one click in the conversation window, building libraries and playlists across services, is becoming one of the new normals of AI chat assistants.
