Adobe announced on Tuesday that its AI assistant for Photoshop has officially launched in beta version on the web and mobile applications. At the same time, the company has also brought a number of new image editing capabilities driven by artificial intelligence to its generative media creation and editing tool Firefly. This AI assistant was first unveiled at the MAX conference in October 2025, and is now open to users. It can help creators remove objects or people in the picture, change colors, adjust light and other operations through natural language instructions.

Users can also use colloquial descriptions to quickly change the overall look of an image by adding a soft light effect, cropping the image to a specified ratio, enhancing shadows, and even replacing the background.

Adobe said that users of the paid version of Photoshop can call the AI assistant to generate content unlimited times before April 9, while free users can get 20 generation credits in the initial stage to experience this feature. In this update, Adobe also launched a new feature called "AI markup", which is currently in the public beta stage, allowing users to draw marks directly on the screen, and then hand it over to the AI assistant for transformation and processing. For example, users can outline a flower with simple lines and let AI convert it into more refined image elements, or circle objects that need to be deleted in the picture and the system will automatically complete the background.

In addition to Photoshop's own intelligent assistant, Adobe has also introduced a number of generative image editing tools to Firefly to further strengthen its positioning in the field of media creation. This time Firefly has added the "Generative Fill" function that has been used in Photoshop for many years, which can replace or add objects in the picture and adjust the background accordingly to make the overall effect more natural. In addition, Firefly has also gained functions such as "generative removal", "generative expansion" and "generative amplification", which are used to intelligently erase objects, expand the picture boundary through AI, and enlarge the image while maintaining clarity. The platform has also launched a one-click background removal tool simultaneously, allowing users to complete image cutout operations more efficiently when creating e-commerce images, promotional materials or social media content.

As early as February, Adobe announced that it would open unlimited generation quotas to Firefly subscribers to encourage more frequent creative exploration and use. As the platform's capabilities continue to expand, Firefly has integrated more than 25 image and video generation models from third parties, including Google's Nano Banana 2, OpenAI's image generation model, Runway's Gen-4.5, and Black Forest Labs' Flux.2 Pro, etc., thus providing users with a richer selection of creative styles and technical routes.
