Since launching its critically acclaimed reboot in 2016, Doom developer id Software has continued to release new games that breathe new life into the long-running classic shooter series. At the same time, another classic "Quake" that had a huge impact on first-person shooters in the 1990s has also been continued through the high-definition remastering of the first two games, RTX patches, and expectations for the development prospects of a new "Quake" game.

Is there going to be a new Quake game? 'Doom' developer submits new 'Quake' trademark

While this may be unreliable news at the moment, a new trademark application submitted by ZeniMax, the parent company of id Software, the developer of "Doom" and "Quake", may indicate that we are finally about to receive a new game in the series. The key here is the "new trademark" - not a renewal of the old trademark, but a brand new application.

Is there going to be a new Quake game? 'Doom' developer submits new 'Quake' trademark

Timur222 discovered this new trademark application document via GameReactor. The document still has limited information and doesn't provide many clues. The submission time is March 3, 2026 and is currently awaiting approval.

This trademark may not go anywhere, especially considering that Microsoft, the parent company of ZeniMax and id Software, is currently in the midst of a leadership transition, with new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma replacing Phil Spencer.

It's not completely out of the question if Sharma decides to cancel the new Quake project after reviewing the projects currently underway at Microsoft Games and all of its studios, including id Software and ZeniMax.

But on the other hand, we might finally be getting a Quake reboot on the scale of what Doom has been for the past decade. Let's hope for the latter.
