Apple recently released the official repair manual for MacBook Neo, and one of the key pieces of information shows that the keyboard of this new model can be replaced as a separate component, which is significantly different from the integrated "top case" design approach of MacBook for many years. In the past, if users wanted to replace the MacBook keyboard, they usually needed to replace the "Top Case" as a whole, which is the entire aluminum alloy upper case assembly including the keyboard; for example, the repair part name of the latest MacBook Air is "top case including keyboard", while the latest MacBook Pro is "top case including battery and keyboard".

According to the repair manual, MacBook Neo has separated three separate parts for keyboard-related parts: "keyboard", "keyboard with Touch ID" and "top shell". Apple also details how to replace the keyboard separately in the document. Although more than 40 screws are still required to replace the keyboard itself, compared with the previous operation process that required large-scale disassembly and replacement of the entire top shell assembly, the new solution has significantly reduced the complexity of the steps and the difficulty of the actual operation.

What makes this structural adjustment more realistic for consumers is that costs are expected to drop significantly. Top case components for recent MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models currently cost between $400 and $600 in the U.S., while for the MacBook Neo, a standalone keyboard or keyboard part with Touch ID is expected to be hundreds of dollars cheaper, although specific pricing has not yet been announced.

MacBook Neo was officially launched on Wednesday and has received a lot of praise for its pricing and performance. Now, on this basis, Apple's improvements in repairability have also become a major plus for this product.
