Samsung Electronics has stopped selling its high-end foldable screen smartphone Galaxy Z TriFold in South Korea due to high production costs despite strong market demand, industry insiders revealed on Tuesday. This is Samsung’s first tri-fold screen phone.

This tri-folding screen smartphone was released in December last year. The model uses a double-folding hinge design and has a 10-inch display when fully unfolded. It was sold out on the first day of launch.

The price of this phone in South Korea is 3.59 million won (approximately US$2,400). Although shipments are limited, Samsung Electronics has carried out more than ten restocks in the Korean market.

Industry insiders said that the reason why Samsung Electronics suspended sales of this three-fold smartphone is that the production cost is too high, and the recent rise in global memory chip prices has made things worse.

Others believe that the Galaxy Z TriFold was released to demonstrate Samsung Electronics’ technological competitiveness rather than for mass production.

Sales will continue in countries where stocks are still available, including the United States.
