Tencent Public Relations Director Zhang Jun announced today that all subway stations in Seoul, South Korea, will be able to accept WeChat payment. In the future, when traveling, you can directly use WeChat payment to purchase tickets at the self-service ticket vending machines at all stations of Seoul Subway Lines 1-8, and enjoy a convenient travel experience. This is another in-depth cooperation between WeChat Pay and the Korean public transportation system after covering the Busan Subway last year.

In terms of operation, after users select the destination and the number of tickets to purchase at the self-service ticket vending machine, they can directly choose WeChat Pay and scan the code to complete the ticket purchase. The process is consistent with domestic subway ticket purchase, making it simple and easy to use.

It is understood that Seoul subway fares are currently calculated based on mileage. The basic fare for adults within 10km is 1,400 won. There is no additional handling fee when purchasing tickets through self-service machines. The exchange rate paid by scanning the QR code will be settled according to the official real-time exchange rate of WeChat Pay.

In fact, WeChat Pay has gradually penetrated into South Korea’s travel scene. Incheon Airport Bus and AREX Airport Express have already supported WeChat Pay ticket purchase. South Korea’s mainstream transportation card recharges, some taxi platforms and buses have also integrated this payment method.

This time, all Seoul subway lines are connected, achieving full coverage of WeChat payment for public transportation in core cities in South Korea.
