"Tomb Raider" developer Crystal Dynamics has announced a new round of layoffs, which will be at least the fourth time the company has laid off employees in the past 12 months. Crystal Dynamics announced in a statement on its LinkedIn page that it would lay off 20 employees in its development and central operations departments.

"Today, Crystal Dynamics will be laying off 20 talented employees, from some development positions and some central operations positions. This is a difficult day for our studio. We never make decisions like this lightly, especially after a restructuring we just went through last year."

"As current projects enter new stages of development, we continue to review our team structure to ensure it is aligned with the studio's long-term goals. While we have worked hard to provide internal transfer opportunities for employees, unfortunately, we have reached a stage where we must reduce our staff."

"We sincerely appreciate the passion and hard work these employees have put into our games and studios. We will provide them with severance compensation and job placement support to help them find new opportunities as soon as possible. If you have suitable positions or know of companies with recruitment needs, please feel free to contact us and we will help recommend these outstanding developers."

The statement also emphasized that the layoffs will not affect the remake of "Tomb Raider: Ruins of Atlantis" and the new game "Tomb Raider: Catalyst."

"We know that news like this will cause concern in the player community, and Crystal Dynamics will continue to work hard on the announced Tomb Raider series. But today, our first priority is to support those colleagues who are leaving."
