Three days ago, Nintendo released a system update (v22.0.0) for Switch 2, launching an important new feature called "Handheld Mode Boost". The "Handheld Mode Enhancement" feature allows Switch 2 users to run Switch 1 games in handheld mode as if they were running in docked mode, significantly improving resolution and graphics.

However, according to estimates posted by Reddit users, enabling handheld mode enhancement will reduce battery life by about 25%. For example, while running Doom 4 (2019), battery life dropped from 5 hours and 5 minutes to 3 hours and 43 minutes.
To be fair, Nintendo did mention the reduced battery life when making the announcement:
“With this feature enabled, running Switch games in handheld mode or desktop mode will have similar performance to the same software running in TV mode. This may improve graphics, but may also increase the power consumption of the console during gaming.
The exact effects of this feature will vary depending on the software you are running. Please note that this feature will not improve the performance of Switch 2 games. This feature forces the console to operate in TV mode while the screen outputs images. This may affect the instructions and other functionality of some software.
When this option is enabled, software performance will be improved, but the host touch screen functionality will be disabled. Additionally, if Joy-Con 2 controllers are connected to the console, they will be treated as Pro controllers. You need to remove the Joy-Con 2 controller from the console before you can connect other controllers. "
