"Overwatch" co-founder Jeff Kaplan made no secret of his admiration for Nintendo in a recent interview, and did not hesitate to call "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" "the greatest game of all time."
In an interview with Lex Fridman, Kaplan admitted that if he had to choose one game to stand above all others, it would be Breath of the Wild.
"There's one game that's the best, and that's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and then there are the other 'greatest games,'" Kaplan said. "The reason it's the greatest game is because every aspect is so thoughtful and designed so beautifully... Like you can chop down a tree and ride it down a river. The world is like a toy box, and everything in it works the way you want it to work."
His overall evaluation of Nintendo is also very high: "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is already so good, how can anyone make a better Zelda game than it? There are so many things about this game that are just right, and other games are lucky to be able to do just one of them. Nintendo is the holy land, they are the best. As long as it is produced by Nintendo, it must be excellent."
The judgment of "the best game of all time" is purely subjective and there is no standard answer. But Breath of the Wild does have every reason to rank among the best games of all time, thanks to its enthusiastic response from players, staggering sales, and high praise from the industry.
