According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman’s latest Power On news briefing, Apple is stepping up its efforts to promote a new round of artificial intelligence strategy adjustments. One of the important measures is to launch a new Siri independent application on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, accompanied by a new feature called “Extensions”.

The report pointed out that in this Siri application, iPhone, iPad and Mac users can not only interact with Siri through voice, but also talk to the assistant in text mode like using ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude, while viewing and managing historical conversation records with Siri, making Siri closer to the mainstream chat robot product form. Since iOS 18.2, Siri has been able to call the ChatGPT service, and the upcoming "extension" feature will further allow users to integrate more third-party chatbots into the system.

"Extensions allow agents in installed apps to work with Siri, Siri apps, and other features on the device," according to the iOS 27 Settings app description in a version of internal testing cited by Gurman. He also revealed that a special "Extensions" section will be added to the App Store, positioned as a "market" for third-party AI integration, making it easier for users to discover and manage such AI extension capabilities. These descriptions also confirm to a certain extent that Apple is indeed testing Siri independent applications internally.

It's unclear whether the Siri app will be available to all models that support iOS 27, or whether it will be limited to iPhone 15 Pro and newer models like some existing Apple Intelligence features. In addition to wider support for third-party chatbots, Gurman said that Siri itself will receive a major overhaul in iOS 27, including an interface redesign that may be combined with the display form of Dynamic Island, as well as the addition of a system-level "Ask Siri" button in Apple's own applications, and a new "Write with Siri" button above the keyboard to more directly invoke AI-generated content.

According to Apple's past rhythm, the first developer beta version of iOS 27 is expected to be released during WWDC 2026 in June this year, and the official version for all users will still be scheduled to be released around September. This round of transformation centered on Siri applications and "extensions" is seen as an important step for Apple to continue to deepen Apple Intelligence layout on the device side and strengthen its competitiveness with mainstream AI chatbots.
