On March 30, BMW officially revealed the design details of the new-generation BMW iX3 long wheelbase model today. This model has undergone a number of customizations for the Chinese market in terms of body size and external accessories, and has made major adjustments and optimizations focusing on the door safety system and interior space.

The exterior design of the new car references the historical elements of the BMW 1500 model in the 1960s. Mass production will provide 9 paint finishes including Marina Bay Blue and Frosted Space Silver. The front face adopts a 3D radiant grille and is equipped with the longest integrated headlight unit in BMW history, which integrates sensing elements and heating wires for the first time. At the same time, the classic Huo's corner has been redesigned as an exclusive "mirror corner" for the Chinese market, using titanium oxide stripes to achieve different light and shadow perspective effects inside and outside; the tail uses L-shaped Tianyu taillights with gradient visual depth to extend the visual width laterally.

In response to the relevant new regulations in the Chinese market, this long-wheelbase model is specially equipped with a new semi-hidden exterior door handle exclusive to China, which adopts an electric and physical two-in-one switch design. In order to cope with extreme situations such as sudden power outages in the vehicle, the door system has a triple safety redundancy mechanism, including direct power supply from the high-voltage battery, power supply from a protected 12-volt backup battery located in the center of the vehicle, and a mechanical structure opening method in the event of a complete power outage. Official test data shows that the door handle has a service life of 13 years or 50,000 times, and the high-strength mechanical structure has a tensile strength of greater than 500N.

In terms of body size and cockpit layout, the length, width and height of the new car are 4885 mm, 1895 mm and 1635 mm respectively.Compared with the standard wheelbase version, its wheelbase has been lengthened by 108 mm to 3005 mm, and all the increased wheelbase space is used in the second-row passenger area. The top of the cabin is equipped with a panoramic integrated sunscreen canopy. By using innovative three-layer silver-plated and low-emissivity glass coating technology, the UV blocking rate reaches 99.9%, aiming to reduce heat accumulation in the cabin and suppress glare.
