On April 4, according to Aifaner, Xu Rui, a former hardware business executive of Xiaomi and ByteDance, will become the newly established company of MSL (Super Intelligence Laboratory) under Meta.AI hardware teamperson in charge. It is understood that MSL, led by Alexandr Wang, will establish a new AI hardware team, and Xu Rui will participate in the formation and leadership of this new department.
It is reported that Xu Rui once served as a hardware business expert and person in charge at Internet technology companies such as Xiaomi, ByteDance, Intel, Amazon, and Lenovo.
Xu Rui worked at Xiaomi from 2015 to 2017. He managed the Xiaomi TV global team, was responsible for analyzing the global smart TV and set-top box market, and formulated the Xiaomi TV global product roadmap. He was one of the core members of the early Xiaomi TV/box team and experienced the key stages of Xiaomi's transformation from a single mobile phone manufacturer to the Mijia/AIoT ecological chain.
From 2020 to 2022, Xu Rui served as ByteDance’s head of hardware research and development. Xinshi Hardware Laboratory, which manages more than 200 hardware and software engineers, leads the development of Nut mobile phones, Dali smart learning lights and other products.
Before joining Meta, Xu Rui served as COO of K-Scale Labs, a humanoid robot startup in Silicon Valley; at the end of 2025, K-Scale closed due to funding issues. Later, Xu Rui joined Dreamer, an AI hardware company founded by his old colleague and former Xiaomi Vice President Hugo Barra, and served as product manager.
