Recently, a self-driving car ran over an internet-famous duck near Mueller Lake Park in Austin, Texas, USA, causing concern among local residents. At the time of the incident, an Avride self-driving car with a human safety operator ran over and killed a duck without stopping.

This duck built a nest in a flower pot outside a local Italian restaurant and is a famous local "Internet celebrity".

An Avride spokesman confirmed that the vehicle was in self-driving mode at the time of the incident, but that the company had not completely suspended testing on public roads.

In order to prevent similar incidents from happening again, Avride is studying special technical improvement plans and has suspended test operations on some sections of roads around Mueller Lake.

However, Avride emphasized that its vehicle design complies with traffic regulations and has the ability to identify and respond to road conditions, road users and obstacles through on-board systems.

The team has reviewed the vehicle data and driving behavior, including recreating the incident scene multiple times through the simulation system, and is evaluating the possibility of optimizing and upgrading the technology to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Currently, there are other companies in Austin that are testing or commercializing autonomous driving, including Zoox, Tesla and Waymo.
