Samsung announced that as of March this year, its cumulative shipments of QD-OLED panels for displays have reached 5 million units. This achievement took more than four years to achieve.Samsung will officially launch mass production of QD-OLED panels for the high-end display market at the end of 2021.From 2021 to 2025, the average annual growth rate will exceed 320%, successfully leading the popularization and technological transformation of the QD-OLED market. It is worth mentioning that shipments will only exceed 1 million units in May 2024, which shows that global demand has grown rapidly in the past two years.
According to data from global market research organization Omdia, in the high-end display market, the proportion of OLED panels is expected to increase from 22% in 2024 to 41% in 2026. Among them, Samsung has launched more than 150 QD-OLED displays through cooperation with 20 global customers such as Acer, AOC, Philips, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, and MSI, significantly expanding its market base.
Omdia pointed out that Samsung will account for 75% of the OLED display panel market in terms of shipments in 2025, mainly due to its unparalleled picture quality, superior quality and stable production capacity.
This year, Samsung launched its high-end technology brand "QD-OLED Penta-Tandem" based on a proprietary five-layer organic light-emitting structure. The "Penta" in the brand name comes from Greek, meaning the number "five"; "Tandem" refers to the stacking/tandem technology in OLED panels. Compared with last year's four-layer QD-OLED, QD-OLED Penta-Tandem's luminous efficiency is 1.3 times higher, its service life is 2 times longer, and its peak brightness reaches 1,300 nits.
In addition, Samsung this year also developed a new type of low-reflective, highly durable QD-OLED display panel surface film named "QuantumBlack". Compared with the previous generation film, the new film reduces light reflectivity by 20% and increases the hardness of the display from 2H to 3H, significantly enhancing durability.
