OpenAI announced the launch of a new ChatGPT Pro subscription plan, with a monthly fee of US$100, mainly for developer users using Codex. Compared with the previous ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) for ordinary users, and the original Pro plan priced at $200/month, the newly launched $100 tier is positioned as "built for real projects" and has significantly upgraded its usage limit and functions.

OpenAI previously launched the Codex application on the macOS platform in February this year, providing developers with "agent programming" tools based on artificial intelligence. The new $100 version of ChatGPT Pro is specifically designed for Codex users who have outgrown the Plus level. Previously, ChatGPT Pro was only available in a $200/month tier.

According to reports, the new $100 Pro plan provides 5 times the Codex usage compared to Plus and includes all Pro-level features, including exclusive model access and unlimited access to Instant and Thinking models. OpenAI said that in order to celebrate the launch of the new plan, it will temporarily increase the Codex usage limit from now until May 31. During this period, users who subscribe to the $100 Pro Pro plan can get 10 times the Codex usage equivalent to the Plus plan to build larger and more complex projects.

Users who require more intensive use can still opt for the $200/month Pro tier. OpenAI currently offers two Pro-level subscriptions: US$100 and US$200, but both are named Pro and differ only in the amount of usage.

OpenAI summarizes the two Pro plans in the description as follows:

The $100 Pro plan is for users who need to use advanced tools and models frequently within a week and want to get an overall credit that is 5 times higher than Plus; during the limited time promotion, Codex usage is increased to 10 times that of Plus. The $200 Pro plan is aimed at "heavy load" scenarios and is suitable for users who need to continuously run the most complex workflows and process multiple projects in parallel. Its overall usage is 20 times that of Plus.

OpenAI emphasizes that the core functions of the two Pro plans are consistent, and the main difference is the usage quota: the $100 Pro unlocks a regular usage quota equivalent to 5 times the Plus (and provides 10 times the Codex quota for a limited time), while the $200 Pro provides a usage quota equivalent to 20 times the Plus.

While announcing the new subscription plan, OpenAI also disclosed the latest usage data for Codex. According to officials, Codex currently has more than 3 million weekly active users, a five-fold increase in three months, with monthly usage growth reaching 70%. The Codex for Mac client is available for download for users to integrate AI-assisted programming experience on the desktop.
