In August last year, Blizzard officially filed a lawsuit against Turtle WoW, the popular nostalgic private server of "World of Warcraft", with the intention of directly shutting down the server.Today, after an eight-month trial, the case came to a result that was widely expected by the outside world: Turtle WoW finally lost the case.
Blizzard's seven copyright infringement claims against Turtle WoW were all supported by the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
The court issued a permanent injunction prohibiting the defendant and its affiliates from developing, operating, distributing or promoting the "World of Warcraft" private server and derivative clients, including Turtle Server 2.0. At the same time, they are not allowed to assist or encourage others to create or promote similar private server projects.
At present, the two parties have reached a confidential settlement and requested the court to suspend the proceedings until June 8, 2026, at which time Blizzard will apply to withdraw the lawsuit.
As the world's largest classic private server of "World of Warcraft", this result is unacceptable to a large number of Turtle WoW players.
Some players bluntly stated in the community that their Warcraft gaming career will end with the closure of the Turtle server, and they are no longer willing to pay for the official version that is full of robots and cash transactions.
