Nowadays, new energy vehicles are getting bigger and bigger. Many medium and large SUVs are close to 2 meters wide and over 5.2 meters long. However, domestic parking spaces still follow the 2015 version of the regulations. The standard parking space for small cars is only 2.4 meters wide. There is a serious mismatch between the two sizes.Congested parking and difficulty getting out of the car have become common problems for car owners, and citizens have called for updating parking space design standards.

Surveys show that in parking lots in many places, after large-sized new energy vehicles are parked in standard parking spaces, the door opening space is obviously insufficient. In particular, the "shrunk parking spaces" against walls and pillars make it difficult for car owners to get in and out normally.

Often you can only move sideways or enter and exit from the passenger compartment or trunk, which significantly increases the risk of scratches.

The width of parking spaces in many old residential areas and shopping malls is less than 2.3 meters, which creates a sharp conflict with the nearly 2-meter-wide new energy vehicles, making parking problems increasingly prominent.

The current parking space standards refer to traditional small cars with a width of only 1.8 meters, which has long been unable to keep up with the iteration speed of new energy models.

As the number of new energy vehicles continues to rise, large-space vehicles have become the mainstream choice for families, and the old standards are obviously lagging behind. In order to increase the number of parking spaces, some developers will also compress the width of the side spaces, further exacerbating the parking dilemma. Faced with this problem, car companies generally recommend that car owners use automatic parking, remote control parking and other functions to realize separate parking for people and vehicles. Some brands also provide trial parking services to help car owners evaluate the suitability of parking spaces.

However, automatic parking is not a panacea. It may still fail in extremely narrow parking spaces and special-shaped parking spaces, and cannot fundamentally solve the problem.

Citizens and industry insiders called on the housing and construction departments to revise the garage design specifications as soon as possible, appropriately widen the standard parking spaces, clarify the ratio of parking spaces for large vehicles, and strictly inspect the shrinkage of parking spaces.
