Google announced last year that it was testing a desktop search application for Windows. This application is similar in form to the Spotlight search function in Apple's macOS system. Now this application has been officially opened for download to English-speaking users around the world.

Users can download and install the application from Google’s official website, which currently supports PCs running Windows 10 and above:

https://search.google/google-app/desktop/

After the installation is complete, users only need to use the keyboard shortcut Alt + Spacebar to bring up the search box and perform search operations directly on the desktop.

This app can not only search web content, but also retrieve information such as files on your local computer and documents stored in the Google Drive cloud.

In the search results interface, users can switch between different views such as "All", "Pictures" and "AI Mode" to obtain a presentation method that better meets their needs.

If the user wants to ask Google questions about the content currently being viewed on the computer screen, they can also use Google Lens or share the screen for further intelligent question and answer interaction.

It is unclear whether this desktop search application will be available on macOS or Linux platforms, and Google has not yet given further response.

However, there are reports that Google is testing a Gemini application for macOS, which, if eventually released, will compete on the same platform with Anthropic’s Claude desktop application and OpenAI’s ChatGPT macOS application.
