Since Epic launched the Epic Games Store, it has consistently offered free "Plus One" every Thursday and has enjoyed a good reputation among the player community. But in terms of market share, Epic has never been able to capture a large enough market from Steam.

Recently, according to Tech Power UP, two former Epic employees said in an interview that the active users of the Epic Mall were mainly concentrated in the early stages of "happy Plus One", and then a large number of players returned to Steam.

In other words, Epic did attract some players through several years of free activities, but it failed to convert these players into core users, and the overall payment rate failed to meet the expectations of Epic executives. This may be one of the reasons for Epic’s global layoffs some time ago.
What do you think of this wave of “getting but not buying”? Free games have indeed allowed Epic to quickly accumulate users, but if it cannot retain people, will this model be considered a success or a failure? If it were you, would you stay at Epic for a long time because of the free games, or would you still go back to Steam after receiving them? Chat about your real usage habits in the comment area.
