Elon Musk's team has reportedly reached out to chip industry suppliers for its Terafab project, seeking quotes and delivery times for chip manufacturing equipment. The Terafab team has contacted several companies, including Applied Materials, Tokyo Electronics, and Samsung Electronics, and invited Intel to join the program.

The project aims to produce cutting-edge chips for use in artificial intelligence, robotics and space, with the goal of delivering large amounts of annual computing power, but its feasibility and timeline are uncertain. Musk's representatives asked for a quote as soon as possible but offered few specifics about what would be produced.

At one point, they even asked suppliers for quotes on a holiday Friday, demanding delivery by the following Monday, according to a person familiar with the matter. Musk wants to move the project forward at "light speed," the person was told.
