Perplexity today officially launched the "Personal Computer" feature, which is an extension of the original Perplexity Computer and can be deeply integrated with Mac local files and applications. This feature was first announced in March and was previously available on a limited basis in the form of a waiting list. It is now officially available to Perplexity Max subscribers.

Perplexity Computer debuted earlier this year and is pitched as an "all-in-one digital worker" that can create and execute complete workflows. With this upgrade, it can now run directly on a Mac and gain access to the local file system and native apps. Pressing two Command keys simultaneously on a Mac keyboard brings up Personal Computer, allowing users to issue commands via text or voice. This feature works across any Mac app, aware of the currently active app window and automatically presenting the corresponding quick action entry.

Perplexity said that Personal Computer can run on any Mac computer with macOS 14 Sonoma or newer installed, but the official recommendation is to use Mac mini as the host device. When used with Mac mini, Personal Computer can run 24 hours a day for work scenarios that require a long-term online device or secure access to local files and native applications. Related tasks can also be initiated and managed remotely through iPhone, making it easier for users to control in mobile scenarios.

In terms of specific capabilities, Personal Computer can perform a variety of tasks including completing tasks on the to-do list in sequence, organizing chaotic download folders, and comparing local file contents with web page information. It can create "agent teams" on more than 20 cutting-edge large models to collaboratively complete complex tasks. Officials emphasized that the operation process of Personal Computer is visible to users, and users can intervene at any time when necessary. All files created by Personal Computer are generated in a protected sandbox environment with auditable and rollback features, as well as an "emergency stop switch" for one-click termination.

Personal Computer for Mac will be gradually rolled out to Perplexity Max subscribers from now on, and users on the waiting list will be given priority to experience it. Perplexity Max subscriptions are $200 per month, and the new Personal Computer feature isn't available to the $20 per month Pro subscription.
