Japan's Shinkansen is one of the world's earliest high-speed trains, with a speed of up to 285 kilometers per hour. However, many technologies have fallen behind after many years of construction. Japanese trains JR are now starting to upgrade, bringing two major upgrades: 5G and noise reduction and muteness. JR announced these two technology upgrades at the end of last month, which will be deployed first on six trains. The 5G window technology comes from Japan's AGC Company.A fiberglass conformal antenna is used, embedded in the car window, and then the signal is connected to the Wi-Fi unit in the car.

Traditional technical methods rely on 5G signals to be transmitted to the car, then reflected in the car, and finally connected to Wi-Fi. Today’s 5G car windows and conformal antennas help improve 5G signal strength, making in-car Wi-Fi faster and more stable.

The second experience upgrade is the noise reduction cabin, with technology provided by Japan’s NTT.Using the PSZ sound insulation kit (Personalized Sound Zone) provided by the latter,The technical principle is similar to that of noise-canceling headphones, which cancel out noise by determining the sound waveform and inverting it.

JR said that they adopted this technology because many passengers do not like to wear headphones. Therefore, after using the PSZ noise reduction carriage, passengers in high-end carriages can freely watch videos or play games on Switch without having to endure train noise.

Judging from JR's description, the Shinkansen's 5G and noise reduction should be available only in some high-end carriages, not a complete upgrade of the entire train. It is estimated that it is mainly provided to high-end passengers.
