According to reports, Paramount officially confirmed at CinemaCon 2026 that the sequel to "World War Z" is in development. It also announced new works such as "Top Gun 3", "Call of Duty", "Star Trek", "Special Forces" and "Transformers", but did not disclose further details. This news comes as a surprise, considering it's been more than ten years since the first film was released.

Last year, Saber Interactive development chief Tim Willits suggested that his studio's World War Z game, which has 30 million players, might help convince Paramount executives to greenlight a sequel: "300,000 people have played this game, which is crazy. I guess that's why Paramount is talking about a sequel."

It is reported that the first "World War Z" was released in 2013 and grossed over US$540 million at the global box office. Since then, the sequel has gone through several twists and turns: Director David Fincher had signed on to direct, but Paramount halted pre-production in 2019 due to budget issues. It's unclear whether Brad Pitt will return for the sequel.
