According to CCTV News, today the first "Hualong One" nuclear power unit in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area - Unit 1 of the China Guangdong Nuclear Power Plant Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project was put into operation and officially qualified for commercial operation.Unit 1, which was put into operation this time, achieved a number of key technological breakthroughs, completed 26 major design improvements, and realized the simultaneous construction and integrated handover of the physical power station and the "digital power station".
The annual power generation is expected to exceed 9 billion kilowatt-hours, which can meet the annual production and living electricity needs of millions of residents in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
According to reports, the output of this clean energy is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 8.4 million tons and afforestation of 20,000 hectares per year.
Currently, Unit 1 has completed all performance tests and 168 hours of full power continuous operation assessment. All parameters of the unit are normal and stable, and the unit is in good condition.
CGN's Taipingling Nuclear Power Project plans to build six "Hualong One" nuclear power units, which will be constructed in three phases. After all are completed, the annual power generation is expected to exceed 55 billion kilowatt hours.It can equivalently reduce standard coal consumption by approximately 16.65 million tons and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 50.82 million tons per year.
Currently, the follow-up projects are progressing steadily as planned:
·Unit 2 of the first phase of the project will carry out the first fuel loading work in the near future;
·The construction of Unit 3 of the second phase of the project has started in June 2025;
·The preparatory work for the third phase of the project is being actively carried out.
